Freerice.com is quite simply brilliant. And kids love it.

It is a non-profit website supporting the United Nations World Food Programme with two aims:

  1. Provide education to everyone for free

  2. Help end world hunger by providing rice for hungry people for free

This is possible because of the advertisers on the site who pay for the rice.

Anyone of any age can use the website which has thousands of multiple choice questions about subjects ranging from:

  • English vocabulary and grammar
  • Basic Maths and multiplication tables
  • Language learning – French, Spanish, German, Latin, Spanish, Italian
  • Geography – world landmarks, capital cities, flags, maps
  • Chemistry
  • Science
  • Literature and Art

Children at the school where I teach love freerice.com. They enjoy the challenge of learning new things. What’s more, they know that the more answers they get right, the more people in need they will be providing rice for.

I highly recommend it. Children spend more and more time in front of a screen these days. This is worthwhile screen time – give it a try with your kids!
